'I Choose Vietnam - I Choose VNU' Contest

Vietnam National University, Hanoi, (VNU) is a leading educational institution in Vietnam with over a century of history, playing a pivotal role in the higher education system, developing human resources and conducting multidisciplinary scientific research in line with international standards.VNU is proud to provide an excellent and culturally diverse learning environment, that attracts numerous international students.

The contest "I choose Vietnam - I choose VNU" is a creative playground for international students at VNU to share stories and experiences about the decision to choose Vietnam and VNU on the journey to conquer knowledge. The contest is organized to connect international students to study at VNU, honouring the cultural diversity and love of young people for Vietnam and the university they have chosen to study at. Thereby, the contest contributes to affirming the position of Vietnam and VNU on the international education map.

Eligibility: International students/postgraduate students/researchers studying at VNU or participating in exchange programs at VNU. The entries can be applied individually or in teams (maximum 05 members/team).

Requirements for entries

• Each individual/team can submit a maximum of THREE entries.
• Entries must align with the theme, focusing on the journey, reasons for choosing Vietnam and VNU, and the experiences of international students in Vietnam and at VNU. Specifically:

• Reflections on the education system, study programs, extracurricular activities, exchange programs, academic support, or student clubs, etc., at VNU.
• Sharing memorable experiences during the journey of studying and exploring Vietnam.
• Telling stories about cultural differences, difficulties or unforgettable memories with Vietnamese people, from friends and teachers to locals. Thereby expressing love for Vietnamese culture and people.
• Lessons or skills gained while living and studying in Vietnam (language, culture, behaviour, lifestyle) and the positive impacts of studying at VNU and Vietnam on career goals or personal development.
• Advice or experience to share with other international friends when studying at VNU and living in Vietnam, along with a call to international friends to come and explore.

Format 

• Video: Video length must not exceed 5 minutes, introducing the reasons for choosing Vietnam and VNU as a place to study, demonstrating creativity through storytelling and message. Videos are in MP4 format (H264 format), minimum size HD 1080P, minimum frame rate: 25fps, minimum transmission speed: bitrate 1.5Mbps.
• Photo: Photos/Photo series (maximum five photos) recording the journey of studying and experiencing in Vietnam, accompanied by a written explanation of 500 - 1,000 words to clarify the story and meaning of the image. Photos must be in JPG or PNG format; each file must be 3 MB or larger. Scanned files or photos taken from physical photos are not accepted. The contestant's name, work, or captions must not be written directly on the photo file.

Language requirements

• For video entries: Native language with English subtitles or in Vietnamese or English
• For image entries: Captions and explanations in the contestant’s native language with an English translation

Note 

• Contestants are responsible for the copyright of their works following the legal regulations. If any copyright violations are discovered after the award has been announced, the Contest Organizing Committee reserves the right to revoke the awarded prize and the classification results and will not be liable for any disputes regarding the authorship of the entry.
• By submitting an entry, contestants are committed to complying with and accepting the Rules and regulations issued and announced by the Organizing Committee.
• The Organizing Committee - VNU reserves the right to contest images and materials for promotional purposes in any form.

Schedule

Evaluation and judging process

• The Organizing Committee will verify that all submissions are complete and comply with the submission criteria. Incomplete or non-compliant entries will be rejected without notification. 
• Eligible entries will be published on the official VNU Cooperation and Development Department Facebook page for public voting to determine the most popular work based on the total score from interactions and shares. The voting score will be calculated as follows:

• 1 interaction (excluding the “Angry” reaction) = 1 point
• 1 share in public mode = 2 points
• Each entry will only receive One share/account/day.

• The jury will evaluate and select the most impressive entries to award at the Tết for International Students – Happy New Year 2025.

Scoring criteria

The entries will be scored and selected by the Jury based on the following criteria:

• Storytelling and meaningful message (50%): Inspiring, authentic storytelling; Clarification of the reason for choosing Vietnam and VNU.
• Creativity (20%): Unique and impressive way of delivering the story. Great images and sound combination (for videos).
• Inspirational (20%): Ability to inspire and impress viewers.
• Presentation quality (10%): Aesthetics and professionalism in photos or videos; Logical and easy-to-follow content arrangement.

• 01 First prize for Video: VND 5,000,000 cash and Gift
• 01 First prize for Photo: VND 5,000,000 cash and Gift

• 02 Second prizes:

• 01 Second prize for Video: VND 3,000,000 cash and Gift
• 01 Second prize for Photo: VND 3,000,000 cash and Gift

• 02 Third prizes:

• 01 Third prize for Video: VND 1,500,000 cash and Gift
• 01 Third prize for Photo: VND 1,500,000 cash and Gift

• 02 Top voted prizes: VND 1,500,000 cash and Gift
